About

ABOUT ART NIGHT

Art Night is a biennial contemporary art festival presenting ambitious new work by artists at pivotal moments in their career. Art Night takes place in public spaces and civic buildings. The festival is free and everyone is welcome.

Our new model, as a national, nomadic and biannual festival, is rooted in the communities we work within. We champion the possibilities of decentralisation, working with local groups and artist run spaces to write their own narratives. We partner with local organisations and practitioners to ensure our programme is embedded in place. We present critically excellent and experimental work by artists to bring meaningful experiences to a wide range of audiences.

Art Night is an intersectional organisation: we are committed to diversity in all areas of our work including who runs the organisation, our artists, board, stakeholders and communities. We are particularly focussed on accessibility and work hard to ensure Disability is considered across all elements of the festival.

In 2023 Art Night delivered its first full iteration in a city outside London. On the evening of 24 June we presented ten major commissions by internationally significant and more emergent artists in civic and public spaces across Dundee, Scotland.

The commissions comprised ambitious live events, installations, sound, performance and film. Projects took place across a route spanning the breadth of central Dundee – from GENERATORprojects in the West End, to Baxter Park Pavillion in the East – bringing audiences and participants outstanding cultural experiences in an array of iconic and unique spaces along the way.

The commissions were presented alongside Inwith – a series of projects highlighting a cross section of Dundee’s expansive art and communities programming.

Art Night was brought to Dundee via a collaborative creative partnership with Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA). Art Night Dundee partners also include V&A Dundee; Creative Dundee; NEoN Digital Arts; Cooper Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD) at the University of Dundee; GENERATORprojects; Dundee City Council and Hospitalfield, Arbroath.

National partners include Art Fund; The Tetley, Leeds; Creative Kernow and Serpentine Galleries.
